Silver has been considered as a precious metal since ancient times. People all over the world use it to make currencies, dinnerware, tea sets, and most commonly, jewelry. Both men and women are fascinated by its beautiful sheen and unique touch.

While people are often confused by sterling silver. Is it pure or not?

Well, it is not. Sterling silver is actually an alloy that contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metal such as copper and steel. That is because pure silver, known as fine silver, which contains 99.9% silver is generally too soft and delicate for producing functional objects. By adding 7.5% of other metals, it gives silver strength and durability without affecting its beautiful color and shiny look.

The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925. Sterling silver jewelry are usually stamped with a 925 or sterling mark to indicate its content.
